Just found out that my poem “swaying red lanterns” in Liquid Imagination was nominated for the 2019 “Best of the Net” poetry award. Cool!
Narrated by the fantastic Dafydd McKimm.
Happy New Year!! New Decade! New… Digits!
(No, I don’t mean my phone number. I just mean a new year, basically…)
Some updates:
I received contributor copies! Yay! Here they are:
Clarkesworld Year Eleven Volume 2, edited by Neil Clarke & Sean Wallace
(with my story “Twisted Knots”)
and
nowhereville: weird is other people, edited by Scott Gable & C. Dombrowski
(with my story “Kleinsche Fläche of Four-Dimensional Redolence”)
Both have swirly things, convection of a sort, people and interesting smells.
[I recently (within this past year) also received these two Lady Churchill’s Rosebud Wristlet issues as contributor copies: No. 39 and No. 40, with my story “Fresh and Imminent Taste of Cucumbers” and my poem “Planetary Refuse: A Flurry of Haiku” respectively. Not pictured here because I’ve taken them and scurried them away somewhere else for safekeeping like a squirrel.]
It’s so great to see, smell, touch the pages, the ink, the silky covers and opening up those crisp pages to the TOC and discover yeah, it’s really there. I exist! The stories exist! And in such wonderful and talented company. 🙂
Many thanks to the editorial teams for these holiday presents.
In other news, I have a few upcoming stories: “The Vanishing of Ultratatts” — Rosalind’s Siblings anthology edited by Bogi Takács and “Coffee Boom” — Clarkesworld for publication in the seeing-double-year (aka 2020).
Also, I’ve recorded a few interviews which are up:
Tipsy Nerds Book Club Podcast– ~40-minute interview (released December 19, 2019) with hosts Natalie Wright and Robyn Dabney. The premise: “Each week, we recreate a fictional drink from the story—or create one inspired by the story—and drink it while podcasting.” Here are some photos of drinks inspired by my “Marshmallows” story, based on (modified) recipes by the hosts and with alcohol and ingredient suggestions by yours truly.
Hec, let me throw one of the photos of drinks up here. Here’s a “Better than Virtual Reality Eggnog” drink inspired by my story “Marshmallows” published in Clarkesworld. Drinks are made with coconut milk cream, coconut/almond milk, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, eggs… lots of yummy creamy, ‘sugar & spice’ stuff. 🙂 … and booze (though one of the libations pictured below is nonalcoholic).
Uncanny Podcast – Short interview with host and editor Lynne M. Thomas after the short story “Nutrition Facts” narration (released November 5, 2019).
I’ve got a lot of ideas for 2020. Some written and polished, some percolating and less polished and some inchoate. They’re all swirling around in the grey/anti/technicolor/nano-matter in my head, and some are swirling in curves and serifs on the digital page, not yet out there in the open, but tucked away while I can still click and tap away on the keyboard, changing this, editing that, appending this.
Cheers… clink! Here’s to a new blank page!
<<scribble scribble>>–and here’s to making it not so blank!
