A poem that I wrote for a writing group contest will be forthcoming in Star*Line!
I’m still in the midst of the poetry contest, so I’ll update once the poem’s published! But, here’s a hint of the flavor of the poem in the photo!

Here’s the beautiful cover art for the Japanese translation of “Caihong Juji.”
Cover art design by Harumi Asano.
Translation by Umiyuri Katsuyama.
Story first published in Robot Dinosaurs!
I am happy to announce that my short story, “Caihong Juji,” originally published in Robot Dinosaurs! will be translated into Japanese (entitled「虹色恐竜」 ) by translator 勝山海百合 Umiyuri Katsuyama. More information is available on Umiyuri’s blog (in Japanese).
I’m excited to see it in print! Thanks Umiyuri and the editorial team at Kaguya Planet!
Edited to Add:
Translator Umiyuri wears multiple hats–she also writes speculative fiction and her work has won accolades. Check out this write-up of Umiyuri’s work by Toshiya Kamei. There are many links in this article to her work, readily available to read in English and other languages online.
About a week ago, it was (3.14) pi day and there was no better way to celebrate it than with a pizza pie! (There’s some debate whether pie can be qualified with the word pizza. My response: yes! Anyway, the day is more about the shape, right? It was a circle pizza pie, not a rectangular “pie” of pizza.)
This reminded me that I have a story out surrounding pizza and the afterlife.
“Scrawls of Squid Ink” is published in the Community of Magic Pens anthology edited by E.D.E. Bell (Atthis Arts), available for purchase!
Check out the language poster related to the title of the book:
Pretty neat!
Reading this language poster made me look up sign language font, to see if there would be a font to convert the title to any country’s version of sign language. I’m still not sure if there’s a font that captures the movement and facial expression involved in signing (not just the letters for ASL). Then, I started to think about all the different kinds of sign language there are across the globe. Anyway, that’s a bit of an aside.
It’s nice to see all those language side-by-side on the poster.
Enjoy a slice of stringy, melted cheese over piping hot chewy dough–and possibly while you read about spooky, magical ink!
I’m happy to announce that my story “Mixology for Humanity’s Sake” is now published in Make Shift: Dispatches from the Post-Pandemic Future, edited by Gideon Lichfield for MIT Press. My story shares a table of contents with authors such as Ken Liu, Cory Doctorow, Malka Older, Rich Larson, Hannu Rajaniemi, Indrapramit Das and others.
This anthology is a new volume in the science fiction series Twelve Tomorrows.
The digital copy is available for purchase now; print copies will be available at a later date.
My interview with Julie Nováková for the forthcoming Strangest of All anthology is now available to read!
Thanks Julie for the fun conversation!
